You see, we live in a culture that is excessively, hierarchically centered. Some call it patriarchal. But for me, this is a misnomer. Having grown in Africa, where there are some traditional matriarchal societies, I know that matriarchal societies also tend to be excessively, hierarchically centered. The problem with hierarchical structures is the power over model where there is no co-existence. This power over model can be expressed in many ways. Perhaps in land conquest. Or oppression. Or even more often, by worshipping the intellect and ridiculizing other forms of intelligence like emotions and intuition.
The price? Disembodiment for most humans. As if we could survive our own Serengeti without body awareness.
I have yet to meet a human who has not in some form or another been affected by trauma. Trauma is not what happens to you. Trauma is what happens to you that is too much, too soon, too fast for the capacity of your body.
You do not have to remember trauma. Trauma can happen before birth. Before you can speak. It can be generational. Situational. Developmental. Collective. Or caused by shock.
To avoid re-traumatization, the handling of trauma requires a skilled professional.
