Time to say a little more about me.
I am grateful for my first name, Marie-Flore. I thank my father for that. He named me. He was from Togo, a small country in French speaking West Africa. This is where I was raised. With the indigenous. With neighbors from the Netherlands. With the rituals. And everything in between. Dancing in the mud potholes when it rained. Sneaking away to eat fresh hot red peppers by the handful in the field behind the house at the age of two. My mother is from Guadeloupe, a Department of France, in the French West Indies. My parents met in France where I was born.
I am multi-cultural. I have lived equal time in Africa, in Europe where I moved in my late teens, and in the United States where I currently live in Northern Virginia. I am also a native French speaker.
Imagine yourself in the Serengeti in Eastern Africa, the world renowned ideal location for wildlife.
Fully embodied. At night. One with the stars. Those same stars that guided several civilizations over 2,000 years ago, including but not limited to the Mayans, Aztecs, Incas, Mesopotamia, Ancient Kemet (Egypt), Akans in West Africa, Zulus and Xhosas of South Africa, and world famous centers like Timbuktu in Mali.
Imagine yourself fitting within the ecosystem of the Serengeti. Its flora. Its fauna. Alive, vibrating. This is what our lives were designed to be. Not just for pleasure. Not just for pain. But capable of dancing with the ebb and flow of what the universe brought to our door. Capable of embracing everything in our own Serengeti. My goal is to help you re-imagine your life. To rewire you in such a way that something deep within you will have the voice it needs to remember how you were originally designed. Physiologically. Emotionally. And in your spirit.
Informed by my own. personal journey through various forms of trauma, with extensive experience in Life Coaching and a vast history of client success, my individualized and professional approach will help you attain your goals. I only work with people who are motivated to turn their lives around. I work with individuals from all walks of life but also with very accomplished professionals (some of them burned out), including members of the legal, healing, or mental health professions.
I do this work as a calling. Out of love. And humility. I have personally gone through my own journey with trauma and received skilled help for that. I have invested tons of time and money in my own healing. As my teachers taught me, and as has to be the case for any good trauma coach or healer, I continue to learn and to be supported myself. Any work I do in my sessions is not book knowledge but informed by my own personal direct experience of this work.
I am a somatic trauma coach, a practicing astrologer, and an attorney.
As a professionally trained and experienced trauma practitioner and as a life coach, I am uniquely skilled to help you create the life you imagine and get a renewed sense of self.
I professionally trained for three years as a Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner (SEP), a body-oriented therapeutic model that helps heal trauma and other stress disorders developed by Dr. Peter Levine. I am also currently a teaching assistant in the professional 3-year training of Somatic Experiencing® International, the leading authority on the SE™ method of trauma. I am further a certified Thought Field Therapy™ (TFT, “tapping”) practitioner, algorithm level. TFT is an energy-based form of psychotherapy working with the meridians and energy centers that is designed to reduce symptoms of psychological distress by manipulating how energy flows in the body. TFT is an evidence-based method for successfully treating PTSD, meaning that it has been tested by an independent body and satisfied a number of criteria. TFT has been used around the world in areas like Rwanda, Kosovo, etc.
I completed the last module to be certified in Integral Somatic Psychology (ISP) on the capacity to increase the embodiment of emotions, a revolutionary method developed by Sr. Somatic Experiencing® faculty, Dr. Raja Selvam. You can find more about this methodology at https://integralsomaticpsychology.org. I have further trained with Sr. Somatic Experiencing® faculty and sexual issues expert, Ariel Giaretto, on Advanced Techniques on Sexual Trauma. I am not only fully certified Reiki level 2, but also practice self-Reiki each day.
My approach is quite unique in the field in that I was also trained by Oren Jay Sofer and use the NVC (Non Violent Communication) revolutionary model of the late Dr. Marshall Rosenberg. I feel that the spirit of what NVC offers is best captured by the following quote from Dr. Rosenberg: “every message, regardless of form or content, is an expression of a need.” At its core for me, anything trauma revolves around the addressing of a need, either then when the trauma happened, or now in the healing of it. Unless that need is identified and safely embraced, something will not truly penetrate.
I am also an astrologer who over the years, trained with some of the most reputable world teachers, including in the U.S., Serbia and Bulgaria. My teachers include Adam Elenbaas, Chris Brennan, and Viktor. Naturally steeped in the mystical and spiritual, I now specialize in ancient astrology with tinges of modern astrology. While I believe that each astrology method has its gifts and suits that astrologer, ancient astrology offers for me a track record of experience dating back to BCE, a grounding in solid spiritual principles, and time-tested precise techniques. While no one can ever guarantee anything in astrology, history shows that ancient astrologers would get killed by the King if they made mistakes. Ancient astrology therefore provides me with a crispier X-ray vision of your unique landscape, and how to re-wild your Serengeti.
Coming from a lineage of seers on both sides of my maternal side, I am an intuitive.
I am also an attorney and still earn my living this way. It sharpens and suits my open, inquisitive mind. The other advantage of my legal training is that in addition to understanding the pain and suffering that hide behind the veneer of social "success," I clearly articulate what I do and why I do it in my coaching sessions. In fact, the very nature of my incisive questions or observations often does by itself create a faster shift in consciousness.
Finally, I was also trained and did serve at some point as a suicide hotline volunteer.
Committing to your own Serengeti is just that – a commitment, and it’s a big one that will take a lot a dedication. My commitment is to provide you with accountability, understanding and support.
We live in sacred times. Each of us is a sacred star in the Serengeti (wilderness) of our own physiology. Of our worlds. Inner. And outer. The only missing ingredient is the right coach. Or astrologer.
Please contact me if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Coaching is an interactive experience where we discover your goals and your passions and use them to help you travel down a path to the life you want. I use presence, and a number various tools. A healthy coaching relationship needs to be reassessed at various times to ensure that the arrangement is still beneficial for both. While I'm paying attention to the content of your concerns, to your goals, I am also trained to "listen" to and observe your body's slight and subtle movements. From these small expressions, we both learn what your body needs to heal, the type of vision that your body better responds to, or I can better assist you to be more in alignment with your vision..
All my sessions generally take place online on Zoom.
I use a variety of tools. I am uniquely skilled. I trained as a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner®, a body-oriented therapeutic model that helps heal trauma and other stress disorders developed by Dr. Peter Levine. I am also a certified Thought Field Therapy (TFT) practitioner (“tapping”), algorithm level. TFT is an energy-based form of psychotherapy working with the meridians and energy centers that is designed to reduce symptoms of psychological distress by manipulating how energy flows in the body. TFT is an evidence-based method for treating PTSD. I am also fully certified Reiki level 2. I am currently completing a cutting-edge training on Integral Somatic Psychology on the embodiment of emotions. I have also trained with expert Sr. faculty Ariel Giaretto, on Advanced Techniques on Sexual Trauma. I further use the NVC (Non Violent Communication) model to get to the core needs.. I am also a practicing astrologer who trained under some of the most reputable world teachers over the years. Naturally steeped in the mystical and spiritual, I now specialize in ancient traditional astrology. Ancient astrology provides me a crispier X-ray vision of your unique Serengeti (inner landscape) and how to re-wild and rewire it. I am also an attorney and still earn my living this way. It sharpens and suits my open, inquisitive mind. Coming from a lineage of seers, I am also an intuitive.
100%! What happens in our sessions stays in our sessions, just like seeing a therapist. (I am not a therapist however).
The time that your coaching process will take depends on the complexity of your goals and your commitment and openness to your process.
I have certain things in common with other astrologers. I work with the cosmos for example. Or I know the power of living in alignment with forces that are “above us.” Also, like other astrologers, I use astrology to gain insight into a client’s inner and outer life.
I differ from other astrologers in many ways however.
First, I am a minimalist astrologer. I use very simple ancient techniques, the way they were practiced over 2,000 years ago with the methods of Mesopotamia, the Babylonians, Egyptians, Greeks, and Arabs. I also use some elements of medieval times.. I go deeply with them however. I use mostly the seven (7) traditional planets that can be seen with the naked eye. Only in specific situations do I use additional planets discovered more recently that require modern tools to be seen. I also very sparingly use fixed stars. I like it because it enables me to be good at my craft, and deliver clear, crispy readings.
The second biggest difference, is that I was professionally trained on trauma. I trained for three (3) years (the same length as law school) to become a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner®. I also trained in evidence-based Thought Field Therapy (aka the source of “tapping.”). Further, I am completing my training in Integral Somatic Psychology, another trauma healing method that builds the capacity of the body to embody any emotion.
All of this means that when I interact with a client, while I may use astrology, I also use non-astrological tools that I was professionally trained to use, to detect bodily signs of trauma and renegotiate trauma. In other words, I am informed by astrology, but also informed by my professional capacity to observe how the body expresses itself and reveals some of its history. I may notice for example, a flicker in the eye, how the person sits on their chair, the particular positioning of one feet, how a specific finger moves, and so forth. The client may not have any conscious memory of what may have led to this particular bodily expression. It may because that memory is implicit (unconscious), pre-verbal (before the client could even speak) or in utero (when they were in their mother’s belly). It does not mean however that the memory is not there. It is there. In the body. At that point, like a painter and her palette of colors, I have my own palette of professional choices. While I may use astrology to gain more clarity about the source of the traumatic event or what may best work for this particular client, I will also use my professional trauma skills to work with the individual to renegotiate this trauma.
I need your exact date and time of birth (to the minute), and place of birth. Some of the stars move every four (4) minutes, so I need to have a very precise time of birth. The best source is the birth certificate. If you are born in the United States, you can request from the hospital or locality your "long form" birth certificate. If you do not have a precise birth time, you may ask one of your parents if alive, and if not, you may want to do a chart rectification with an astrologer who specialize in chart rectification as a profession.
It is refreshing and wonderful to notice that more and more people understand the importance of the body, and integrate embodiment practices in their services. This is long overdue. As a species, we live too much in our heads. This brings havoc, including in our physiology with sicknesses. I hope that this embodiment trend will not only continue but also increase. Worldwide. More than ever, do we need it!
Working with the body is not however the same as professionally working with trauma. While working with the body and working with trauma both require the involvement of the body, in working with trauma, the goal is not to work with the body, but how to work with the body. In trauma, the goal is to work with the body in such a way that the memory that the body holds about the traumatic event can be renegotiated. Only when that bodily memory has been renegotiated can the individual truly move on.
This means that healing trauma is not a simple matter of embodying for example, Mars, the planet of fire and courage, or of embodying more fire energy, if one lacks “fire” or motivation in their astrological chart or in their life. While these practices or rituals have their place and may yield results, in some cases, the results may either be superficial or the practices not appropriate and in fact re-traumatize.
To explain, the precise reason why an individual may not have “fire” or motivation could be simply because when they tried to have “fire” (or will) as a kid, they were severely beaten. Alternatively, it may be because as a baby, they were caught in a house fire which they may not even consciously remember. As a result of these incidents, their body may have developed an aversion to the archetype of “fire.” The psyche responded with "henceforward, I will not have any motivation." In such instances, asking the individual to embody Mars, may do more harm than good, especially if there is an unconscious memory that was not renegotiated and that the body remembers. As a skilled professional, I would be able to tell not only what may work and what would not, but I would also know how to work with the individual, drop by drop, in a way that the body can handle, and in a way that would help to renegotiate what happened.
I was raised in Africa. My father was from Togo. The Serengeti is for me a powerful image. It "re-members" me to my lineage. It also "re-members" me to what it means to be a human. The Serengeti is one of the world largest natural reserves, and one of the ten natural travel wonders of the world. It is located in Tanzania and Kenya. It hosts one of the largest mammal migration in the world. Wild animals freely roam the Serengeti. We humans have a lot in common with these animals. A big part of our physiology is similar to these animals. Our reptilian brain and our mammal brain. Unless we reconnect with our physiology, a part of us remains disconnected from who we truly are. We do not have the capacity to be fully present. Reconnecting to our physiology allows us to reconnect to all parts of us, our emotions, our dreams, our spirit and what we came here to do. We need to relearn what we have unlearned. Of course, we need to use our logical brain but we need to do so in a manner in which we are as embodied as our brethren and sisters animals in the Serengeti.
I am not a licensed therapist, or a psychiatrist. I am a coach. As a coach, I will not diagnose any psychological conditions. Coaching is not a substitute for psychotherapy, substance abuse treatment, or other licensed professional mental health service. As a coach, unlike licensed mental health professionals, I am free to practice across jurisdictions and use a wide variety of tools. The tools that I use require your active participation. As a somatic coach, we will also not engage in traditional talk therapy. Somatic coaching means that I will show you how to actively incorporate your physiology into the sessions, so that progress is not limited to you cognitively gaining knowledge, but instead fully integrated into your very cells.. It is only when your entire body has welcomed the change that the change can better outwardly manifest and also, fulfill you.
